Stephen Curry wore custom-made footwear to express his support for the Asian community.
In response to the uptick in violence against Asian-Americans, Curry used his shoes to show support for the community.
Recently, eight people were killed in a string of shootings at three different massage parlors in the Atlanta area. The majority of the victims were Asian-Americans, sparking fears of an increase in attacks targeting this community.
The families of each of the eight victims of the Atlanta area shooting received money from the auction of the sneakers.
Curry collaborated with the Bruce Lee Foundation to design the yellow and black personalized sneakers, which pay homage to the legendary martial arts fighter and emphasize the equal rights message he promoted. Numerous well-known people have spoken out against the violence against the Asian community in the United States.
The Warriors head coach, Steve Kerr, who never backs down from speaking his mind on these types of issues, offered his thoughts on the hate crimes taking place across the Bay Area and elsewhere.
He described the hostile environment toward Asian-Americans as “devastating” and “idiotic”:
