On Monday evening, sophomore Dominic Barcomb from Milton High School joined his team again for the first time since his heart ceased to function after collapsing on the court on January 3. This incident occurred during a JV2 game against Spaulding High School in Barre.
The rapid response of the teams at Spaulding High School, coupled with the emergency care received at a Boston hospital, has enabled Dominic to return to Vermont, where he is currently recovering and looking forward to cheering for his team in their rematch against Spaulding.
A large crowd was observed wearing shirts emblazoned with the number 23 on the jerseys. Jennifer Carbonneau crafted these T-shirts as part of a fundraising initiative for Dominic and his family.
A number that has become immensely important to those dear to him, in both his athletic pursuits and personal life.
The members of Dom’s team are eagerly counting down the days until he can return to the field, and in the meantime, they are offering him their unwavering support, mirroring the encouragement he provides them from the sidelines.
In addition, Dominic is partnering with the American Heart Association to push for new legislation that would require schools to establish cardiac emergency plans. This initiative is now awaiting action from lawmakers.
