Following the three shootings at Atlanta-area spas on March 16, free-agent guard Jeremy Lin participated in an Instagram Live event on Tuesday to raise money for the Asian Americans Advancing Justice chapter in Atlanta.
In addition to raising $7,000, Lin also donated $5,000 to the cause, while Gleit and Facebook contributed $25,000. Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri and Facebook Vice President of Social Impact Naomi Gleit both assisted with the fundraising efforts.
Six of the eight victims that Robert Aaron Long is accused of shooting and killing on March 16 were Asian women.
The shootings occur at a time when hate crimes against Asian Americans are on the rise, even though the motivation behind them is still unknown.
