Together with the CWAJ, Taisho Pharmaceutical and Rui Hachimura Support Women

Tokyo — The College Women’s Association of Japan (Ippan Shadan Hojin CWAJ, Tokyo, Japan) has received a donation from NBA player Rui Hachimura and Taisho Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan). Hachimura just learned about the educational opportunities that the CWAJ offers to women in Japan and overseas, which prompted his donation.

“My goal is to assist women in realizing their aspirations and objectives,” stated Hachimura. “I appreciate the ladies who helped me become who I am today—my mother, grandmother, and sisters. They have always held a special place in my heart. I hope women will have many more chances to play active roles and thrive in the future, as my mother did in many trying and demanding circumstances.”

The CWAJ will use this donation to support its scholarship program, allowing women to achieve their dreams.

Hachimura began playing basketball in junior high school. He was born and reared in the Japanese prefecture of Toyama. Before enrolling at Gonzaga University in the United States in 2016, he attended Meisei High School in Sendai, where he helped the school win three consecutive titles in the All-Japan High School Tournament. During his junior year at Gonzaga, he won the Julius Erving Award, and the team advanced to the NCAA tournament’s Elite Eight. Hachimura was also the first basketball player from Japan to be chosen in the NBA draft’s first round. Hachimura plays for the Washington Wizards and the Japanese National Basketball Team in addition to other teams.

Like Hachimura and Taisho Pharmaceutical, the CWAJ is aware of how women affect society. Japanese women who want to study overseas and Japanese people of both genders who are visually impaired have been given scholarships by the CWAJ since 1972. Six Japanese women will receive the inaugural CWAJ Pandemic Response Nursing Scholarship for Women this year from the CWAJ.

About Taisho Pharmaceutical: This Tokyo-based pharmaceutical business has been “contributing to healthy and productive lives for consumers” for over a century. Taisho Pharmaceutical is a full-service producer that offers a variety of products to satisfy consumer needs, ranging from illness prevention to treatments. Taisho Pharmaceutical, which is also a well-known manufacturer of over-the-counter medications, has selected Hachimura to represent Lipovitan D, one of its best-selling products. Southeast Asia and Europe are new international markets for Taisho Pharmaceutical.

About the College Women’s Association of Japan (CWAJ): The CWAJ is a unique group of women who help other women via friendship, community, education, and the arts. Since its founding in 1949, the main goal of this all-volunteer organization has been to award scholarships. Donations and earnings made during the CWAJ Print Show (an annual, highly regarded show and sale supporting contemporary Japanese print art) fund these scholarships. To better serve the community, the CWAJ offers educational services to both adults and children, including creative programs for people who are blind or visually impaired.
